Nationals

This is the last week to register for the High School National CHess Championships in Mpls. before the price start going up. The cost this week is $50 + USCF membership which is about $20. Register on-line at www.uschess.org go to National Events, Find the High School Section and then Register. You're on your own for this one, though I will be there if you let me know you're going.

I have ratings for 3 reasons. Students can see their progress. They can tell who they should be playing. I can tell who I should encourage to attend tournaments.

Today we learned to accomplish 3 things in the opening:

1) Don't fiddle, control the middle.

2) Develop your knights and bishops right away. Get them out of the back row.

3) Castle to get your king safe.

We also learn to notate a game and practice doing that.
